Let’s face it: No matter how exited & boastful you were about your new iPad (or iPhone or iPod touch) – you never had the top notch email experience with the default email app. People always wanted to have a native app dedicated to Gmail but it took forever for Google to formally announce it. However, few minutes ago Google did launch a buggy Gmail app for iOS devices and then pulled it from iTunes. Check out the official announcement on Gmail Blog. Google confirmed the bug and has promised that their engineers are working on a fix. Those who were faster than light to download the app may continue to use the app. The bug isn’t severe, but breaks the notifications.
We all know that Google is obsessed with speed and has promised that there are several time-saving features in their app. Some of these feature include sound-enabled push notifications for new messages, complete mailbox search, auto-completing email addresses from you Gmail contact list and address book on iDevice, split-view on iPad & quick attachments upload. If you are one of those busy geeks who get dozens of emails every hour then you’ll be happy to know that the App offers priority mailbox. Your messages are displayed in threaded conversations and you can perform regular message tagging, starring, spam reporting and deleting actions.
In order to check for the new messages, you’ve to pull down the list of messages in your inbox with your finger and the app will try to fetch new messages from Gmail server. The App works fine with iOS 4+ devices. If you’ve downloaded the app, do let us know your views & comments about the new app. Do you like it better than the default app on iPad?
Note: Download link is not available. The app will go live on iTunes as soon as Google fixes the bug.
